"On the recommendation of the second pay commission November 1962 saw the Govt. Of India approve a scheme to provide educational facilities of a uniform standard in different cities throughout the country in order to facilitate the education of the children of the transferable central govt. employees. Thus in the year 1963-64 ,20 regimental schools were taken over to run central schools by the Ministry of Education for the children of the central govt. employees having the all India transfer liability. Later on Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan was registered on 15th December 1965 as an autonomous body under the Societies Registration Act of 1860. With that humble beginning now Kendriya Vidyalaya are catering the needs of not only the transferable central Govt. employees but the local people also. At present the KVS are situated in the far flung areas of the country and they above 950 in number”.
Mission of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan
1. To cater the educational needs of the children of transferable centralGovt. employees including defence and Para military forces by providing common Programme of education
2. To pursue excellence and set the pace in the filed of school education
3. To promote and initiate experimentation and innovation in education in collaboration with other bodies like the Central Board of Secondary Education and NCERT
4. To develop the spirit of national integration and create a sense of Indianans among them.
5. Common text books and bilingual medium of instructions
6. Affiliation to CBSE
7. Co-education and composite system.
8. Teaching of Sanskrit from class VI to VII. Students may choose Sanskrit at class IX and X levels as additional/ optional subject
9. Maintenance of an appropriate teacher –pupil ratio.
10. Waiver of tuition fee for boys belonging to scheduled caste and Scheduled tribe category. No tuition fee for girls
11. Free education for the single girl child from class VI onwards
